JEFF MERCIER

I was born at the foot of Mont Blanc in 1970, and I have always practiced mountain sports, alpine skiing, and hiking when I was a child. I started mountain sports at the age of 13 with rock climbing and quickly moved on to mountaineering and then ice climbing. I was part of the French national mountaineering teams and climbed and opened numerous routes on the great north faces of the French Alps.

I have also done a lot of dry-tooling, opening numerous crags in France and repeating routes worldwide up to the D15 level.

I am a High Mountain Guide, but my main job is mountain rescue. I work for the PGHM and spent 15 years working in Chamonix. Now, I am based in Annecy.

My passion for over 25 years has been ice climbing: from Turkey to the icebergs of Greenland, passing through Norway and Canada, I have climbed kilometers of vertical ice. This unquenchable passion continues to drive me, and I am always looking for new projects. In recent years, I have focused on climbing in glaciers, halfway between dry-tooling and ice climbing. This new field truly excites me for the future.
